Learning Trends 2023
- Artificial Intelligence, digital technology applied to education, augmented and digital reality, access to higher quality content and information, as well as the Common European Skills Framework, will be the main trends in learning in 2023.
- Learning starts at school, but continues throughout working life: half of the companies will promote training plans as an incentive for talent retention.
Madrid, 21 December 2022.- Companies are betting on different ways to retain internal talent. Among the main measures proposed in 2023, organizations are betting on increasing employees’ base salary (63%), betting on internal promotions (60%) and developing improvements related to wellbeing (40%), as stated in the report “The impact of inflation on talent management” prepared by PwC. In addition, the study points out that training (51%) is postulated as a key area to boost employee capabilities.
An education that has evolved in recent years thanks to technology, which has led to a transformation of the training plans of corporations and the Spanish educational system. The use of digital technology has changed teaching and learning systems, facilitating access to content from different platforms and devices, which has allowed personalized learning for the user.
In this context, ODILO, the Cartagena-based scale-up known among its users as the Netflix of education and which has the largest catalog of educational content in the world, has collected in the report ‘Learning Trends 2023’ some of the key trends that will accelerate the digital transformation in training and education next year. “The main learning trends in 2023 go through the implementation of digital technology solutions such as artificial intelligence and augmented and virtual reality, and with access to higher quality content and information sources,” says Alberto Abel, spokesperson for ODILO.
The 5 top trends in Education
- Artificial Intelligence in the training course
Artificial intelligence will play a key role in learning systems, not only in educational institutions, but also in the business world. AI is finding its place in both educational platforms and work environments. By 2023, AI-based systems will be increasingly used as part of the teaching process, as they enable the delivery of personalized content according to the needs of each individual.
- Unlimited Learning Ecosystems
Technology will play an essential role in education, with increased penetration of so-called unlimited learning ecosystems. “These ecosystems have five fundamental pillars, including custom-configured learning platforms and apps, unified access to all content, and an integrated BI system,” says Alberto Abel.
The ecosystems are configured and designed to suit each organization, and intelligently select the best educational content and learning experiences in one click, among millions of options to suit the preferences and needs of each organization and user, becoming a strategic tool for Learning & Development (L&D) departments, for example.
On the other hand, the personalization of learning experiences, the variety of formats and resources, and the different learning programs have had an impact on user engagement levels, reflecting an increase of 3 to 5 times as well as learning habits, which have also added 11 minutes of voluntary learning every day and 30% of learning hours outside school hours.
- Quality of verified content
In terms of content, the report identifies two major trends. Firstly, a greater demand for quality information, verified and produced by professionals in the sector in response to the rise of hoaxes, fake news and disinformation. Thus, there will be an increased interest in guaranteeing the reliability of the sources of the content to ensure that what is being consulted lays the foundations for a correct education.
In addition, as ODILO points out: “The Common European Competency Framework will also play a key role for vocational training and skills development in 2023. Established to provide a segmented competency model for all EU professionals by 2023, the framework is reinforced by the inclusion of digital skills and technological tools.”
- Hands-on teaching and STEAM programs in education
In the new education system, it is not the person who retains the most who will learn best, but the person who best applies the knowledge acquired. “Teaching-learning processes that focus on encouraging ‘knowing’ will be replaced by more attractive ones that promote ‘knowing how to do’,” stresses Abel. A radical paradigm shift in which personalized education gains importance to the detriment of traditional systems.
Specifically, in the educational system, thanks to unlimited learning ecosystems, each student will be able to build his or her own learning path based on his or her particular needs. This is possible because in this approach, learners have at their disposal a wide variety of tools and content with which to educate themselves in a more experiential, personal and immersive way.
- Augmented and virtual reality for more personalized learning
Augmented and virtual reality will allow a better assimilation of content by providing practical scenarios and simulations of reality that also personalize learning. “These technologies allow a more realistic educational experience by visualizing the content in an interactive and graphical environment. It is having a great impact in VET because it allows the professional to observe and interact with the content virtually and receive instant feedback,” says Alberto Abel.
