  • The platform offers more than 3,000 titles in books, audiobooks, and educational materials in Catalan, Spanish, and English
  • The platform seeks to promote collaborative reading, literacy, and reading comprehension and to support language teaching

The general director of Early Childhood, Innovation and Educational Community, Amanda Fernández, accompanied by the director of the Mata de Jonc School, Patricia Busquets, presented Eduteca, the intelligent digital library that the Department of Education, University and Research makes available to students, teachers, and families in order to contribute to the achievement of their academic objectives.

This project was launched last year in 29 schools in the Balearic Islands and as of this 2019-20 school year, it is available to all publicly funded Balearic centers.

In the words of the director-general of Early Childhood, Innovation, and Educational Community, Amanda Fernández, “Eduteca is a clear example of the pursuit of educational equality regardless of the socioeconomic status of the student, that ensures everyone has the same opportunity to access high-quality content and encourage digital literacy from anywhere at any time.”

She added: “Eduteca is a program that takes advantage of the full potential of digital tools and the possibilities offered by a digital library to generate new methodologies that help teachers and students improve the teaching-learning process, and helps their families to get involved and save costs on educational materials.”

More than 3000 titles in books, audiobooks, and educational materials in Catalan, Spanish and English available to Balearic Island schools

With the aim of supporting teachers, students and families of the public centers of the Balearic Islands, more than 3,000 titles in books, audiobooks and educational materials in Catalan, Spanish and English have been made available to the educational community.

Eduteca also offers teachers an interactive platform to support reading plans that foster collaborative reading, literacy, and reading comprehension. The platform does all this while also promoting language teaching and encouraging reading as academic support and to create independent readers.

During the official presentation of the project, a demonstration was given that shows that it is a tool aimed inclusively at students, teachers, and families. It is a flexible, simple, and practical tool accessible through the web and through the EDUTECA IB application and available for Android and IOS, which can be used from different digital devices.

Eduteca is also an excellent platform for reading comprehension and management of reading plans by teachers. It provides a space where teachers can propose compulsory or optional readings, in addition to allowing them to measure reading comprehension and improve student literacy, all in a single tool.

It should be noted that this project is a key step in fulfilling the Department of Education, University and Research’s commitment to promoting strategies for key information technology and communications skills acquisition in their work itinerary. There is a clear commitment to the implementation of this project in the entire educational community of the Balearic Islands and its use in the coming years as a technological tool for improving reading habits and reading comprehension statistics for students in the Balearic Islands.
